- Alphons Leopold Mielich was noted for his Orientalist scenes and most of the Orientalist artists were fascinated by the Cairo streets life during the 19th century, Alphons Leopold was also impressed by the aesthetic crafts in Egypt, and in 1891 he painted “The Carpet Seller” depicting a scene in one of the most famous markets in the Jewish quarter in Cairo at that time; the painting shows three merchants negotiating and bargaining to buy a group of Moroccan silk carpets, and behind them a wooden crescent and stars logo in front of the bazaar entrance.
